Lovehacks

Lovehacks have three defining features. First, they don’t take much time. Second, they don’t require any coordination with, or cooperation from, our spouse. Third, they don’t require that we modulate our expectations.

Although all the lovehacks we’ll discuss here have received some level of empirical support, the quantity of relevant research is sometimes limited. In addition, not all lovehacks will be effective for any given individual. Considering an array of lovehacks maximizes the odds that at least one of them will appeal to almost everybody. But, more important, these specific examples illustrate a more general way of thinking about how to implement quick-and-dirty procedures to benefit our marriage; we can use them as jumping-off points for developing our own lovehacks.

Our discussion centers around two sets of lovehacks. The first set focuses on countering weaknesses in our marriage and the second focuses on savoring strengths.
